COALITION ASSISTANT

FOOD PREPARATION SUPPORT

​​Are you passionate about building a stronger, healthier community? Join our team as a Coalition Assistant and help us rescue food and redistribute it to those in need.

Role Overview: As a Coalition Assistant, you'll play a vital role in ensuring the smooth operation of our food rescue and distribution efforts. You'll assist with sorting rescued food, performing quality control, and helping our member agencies when they arrive to pick up their food donations. You'll be a part of a dedicated team working to create food prosperity across London.

 

Time Commitment:

  • Shifts: 9:30 am to Noon, and Noon to 2:30 pm.

  • You can choose to work one or both shifts. Join with a friend and we will assist in placing you together as a team.

  • We operate Monday to Friday, and we prefer to have two volunteers per shift.

  • Volunteers are asked to attend at least one shift every two weeks and sign up in advance to ensure that all shifts are covered.

 

Location

  • The Food Hub is located at Glen Cairn Community Resource Centre at 244 Adelaide Street South

  • We are serviced by the London Transit Commission via route 16 SB at stop 86 (from Pond Mills) and 16 NB (from Masonville Mall) at stop 50.

  • Free parking is available on-site.

Your role as a Coalition Assistant is critical to the success of our mission:

  • Food Rescue: By supporting the collection and sorting of food donations, you'll help us rescue an average of 10,000 pounds of food weekly, preventing it from going to waste.

  • Impact on the Community: The sorted food is redistributed to our 24 member organizations, which include shelters, meal programs, and agencies serving vulnerable populations across London.

  • Sustainability: Your work directly contributes to creating food prosperity, supporting sustainable, healthy meals for children, adults, and seniors, while reducing our environmental footprint by diverting food from landfills.

Have some volunteer experience? Consider applying to be a Volunteer Captain and help us with training and scheduling our volunteer team.

As a Food Preparation Team Member, you’ll process donated food by preserving, blanching, cooking, and baking to ensure nothing goes to waste. Available Monday to Friday, 10 am to 2 pm, you’ll work alongside other volunteers to prepare fresh, nutritious meals. Basic kitchen skills are helpful, but we welcome all who are eager to learn. If you’re passionate about reducing food waste and enjoy hands-on kitchen work, this role is for you!
